I want to take us back to that time in our lives when we were blissfully unaware of the worries that often plague modern, adult life. The time before we “grew up.” Think about your childhood when the world seemed bigger, and brighter - when you were free to play, wonder, explore, and truly live in the present moment. It seemed like the world was our oyster and that anything was possible. If you could dream it, you could do it.
But life takes us through loops and pathways that we didn’t expect to go through, and it is important to come back to ourselves at some point. It matters to rewild our existence so that we’re almost transformed into the person we are meant to be, while not losing our original “wild” and free essence of who we were since we were born. I like to say, even unhinging yourself in a good way can be freeing. It is that wild spirit that I aim to bring to life with the pieces for this show.
You will see that some artwork stands out, others are different and unexpected, and some even have words attached to them to represent a thought, a feeling, or an action. Some are even crafted with delicate paper to represent life’s fragility. All little details presented are imperfect yet perfect in their ways, because they simply exist, just like we do. We choose to see what we want to see and how we want to see it, that is up to us.
The artworks include works on paper, glass, oil on canvas and different shapes that are intentionally placed to express the movement of life and the ebb and flow of change. That is the sentiment I aim to inspire with these works, that sense of individuality without conforming to standards or trends, and embracing that essence fully, which already lives within you.
Each piece has a life of its own, yet it is connected to the rest, and its differences make it beautiful and true. To Rewild is most importantly, to accept OURSELVES and have pride in who we are. It starts with a love for who we are. Don’t be afraid to even embrace that inner child.
You can’t ever be wrong if you follow your own heart and path. You are the main character in the movie of your life. And please don’t ever grow up. May you rewild your journey in your unique way and live it out fully with each passing day.
“The purpose of art is not the release of a momentary ejection of adrenalin but is, rather, the gradual, lifelong construction of a state of wonder and serenity.”
— Glenn Gould
Poem - more.than.words.
Soulful…eyes
Vibes…in the sky
Can manifest…and spark life
Into existence…whirlwind!
In a peaceful place…a forest
Where you flourish…like a phoenix
With Truth…be you
And Acceptance…of your power
Come as you are…what do you see?
Dance at night…full moon sky
Love infinitely…big heart
Feed your soul…elevate
Embrace yourself…at all times
With Light…iridescent
And so, so much love…no lies.
Always and forever…more than enough.
These are the “more than words” works on paper, which serve as a collective set but each framed artwork also stands on its own. Each piece is part of a poem written specifically for the Rewild show. The series represent artworks that are reflective of one another. The words here are signs of the inner self and remind us of our potential as human beings. Only we can truly change that reality by being open-minded yet gentle with ourselves. All while being authentic to who we are. The works on paper remind us that how we see ourselves is how everyone else will see us, and that self-love and self-awareness matter greatly.
Each piece is meant to be individual but also part of the rest of the poem, which you can pair or rearrange if you acquire more than one piece of art, therefore making the phrases even more personalized and unique to you. Remember that as you acquire one or more, you are also part of a bigger collection of artwork, which is “More Than Words”, and are linked to others around the world through your pieces and their significance.
