Music Is A Part Of My Inspiration
I'm happy to be back in North Dakota for the summer season (after spending the winter in Arizona, showing my work at the Celebration of Fine Art).
It's really nice to be back in my studio. It's my favorite place to create. I love turning on my music and getting to work...it's like I'm entering into my own world.
Even though I am in the art world, I was not given the gifts of musical ability or skill. However, music plays such a vital role in my creative work. Music is always on in my studio. Simply put, without music, my visual art would not come to be. I have such a passionate appreciation for those giving their gifts through music.
Music sets the stage and cultivates the mood for what comes through my hands and onto the canvas.
With the extremely powerful role music plays in my professional work (not to mention personal life), I was so excited to have the opportunity to go to Coachella.
Music plays such a vital role in my creative work.
Coachella is a music festival that takes place once a year in California. I've had the extreme good fortune of being able to attend numerous times.
I love supporting the musicians and witnessing them bravely perform their art form, live.
A few of the artists I got to see live are ones I've been painting to in my studio for years. Now I feel like I can relate to them and their music on such a deeper level.
HAIM is one of those bands. One of my favorite memories was not only seeing them perform, but also hearing them talk about their experience. They said something like, "It's such an honor to have you here supporting us as our dreams come to life and it's an honor to support other artists as they take the stage."
Then it hit me...
We all have to step up to different "stages" to allow our dreams to come to life. My "stage" is a canvas. Yours may be writing in a Word doc or behind a camera.
HAIM's "stage" is a literal stage. It doesn't matter what your craft is or how many people follow your work, we all need support and we all benefit from supporting others as they step on "stage" to make their dreams come to life.
The whole Coachella experience filled me with inspiration and insight and really revved up my creative energy!
